What are 3D Shapes?
A 3D shape can also be referred to as a 3-dimensional shape with particular properties, for example, amount of edges, faces, and vertices. All of 3D shaped items are solids with some dimensions in the X, Y, and Z-axis known as width, length, and height, and that can also be known as the measurements of the good object. 3D shapes are often arisen from the turning of their 2D shapes.
Properties of 3 D shapes:
3D shapes or solids have some properties according to their shapes and sizes,
Vertices: A vertex is a corner point where the edges meet.
Edges: An edge is simply a line segment drawn between the faces.
Faces: A face is a curve or flat surface on the 3D surface covered by its edges.
Types of 3D Shapes:
- Hemisphere (half sphere)
- Tetrahedron (Triangular pyramid)
- Square pyramid (Square based pyramid)
- Triangular prism
- Pentagonal prism
- Hexagonal prism
- Heptagonal Prism
- Octagonal prism
- Nonagonal prism
- Dodecagonal prism
Full Overview of 3D Shapes:
A cube is defined as a three-dimensional square with six equal sides. All the faces of the cube have equal dimensions. All angles are equal and right-angled triangles.
A cuboid is also known as a rectangular prism. The faces of the cuboid are rectangular. It has six faces, eight edges, and eight vertices, respectively.
A cone is a solid object that has a circular base and has a single vertex. It is a geometrical shape that tapers.
A cylinder is a solid geometrical figure that has two parallel circular bases connected by a curved surface. It doesn’t have any vertices.

A prism always contains the same shape or face on either side.
A pyramid with all upper faces is isosceles triangles that connect at a single vertex, and the base surface is like a square.
Hemisphere (half sphere):
A hemisphere looks like a cut portion of the sphere. The cut surface looks like a circle, and the other portion is like a solid semicircle.
Tetrahedron (Triangular pyramid):
A pyramid with all faces like a triangle is called a tetrahedron. It has six edges, four faces, and four vertices, respectively.
Square pyramid (Square based pyramid):
A square pyramid is a pyramid that has a square base, and the rest faces are like triangles together connected at a single vertical at the tip.
A sphere is a Rounded Solid ball that does not contain any flat surface and edges and vertices
A polyhedron is a solid and 3D shape that contains flat surfaces and straight edges. A regular polyhedron is a 3D shape having all faces are of the same shape.
A dodecagon is also called a regular polyhedron whose all faces are of the same shape. It has 12 faces, and all are like pentagons.
Triangular Prism is a prism having two triangular faces whose vertices are connected by an edge forming a rectangular face. It has six vertices, nine edges, and five faces.
A torus is a donut-shaped solid having a hole in between and forms a ring-like structure.
Pentagonal prism is a prism having two pentagonal faces connected with their vertices.
